on cluttered trips
July 13, 2009
In some ways I dreaded this trip, because I was still tired from the Balkans, wanted to get moving on the book project, and it also looked as though I had overcommitted to an excessive number of activities.
But in fact, the trip was rejuvenating precisely because of the excessive number of activities. I had approximately 5 major activities with 5 separate groups of people in a 7-day span. And rather than tiring me out, it was energizing, because it made time feel more full. Dinner last Monday night with the ANTHEM people was only one week ago, but feels like it was about 2 months ago.
Nice dinner last night with Peter Hallward, and some issues were clarified during that discussion.
I’ll be flying back to Egypt this afternoon. And then there will start to be a lot more “how to write a philosophy book” posts, or at least my version of how to write one. Also, Gibbon will start to reappear frequently. (Only a fool would carry those big thick books while traveling as much as I’ve been traveling lately.)
