the institutionalization of s.r.

April 20, 2009

I use the lower-case letters at the request of Ray Brassier, who is perhaps a bit alarmed at the wild success of his own coinage, “speculative realism.” For those who follow such things, s.r. seems to have crept into a university syllabus for the first time known to me (though the books have been used individually already at such universities as Brown, Columbia, and now NYU).

Anyway, at Guelph in Canada:

And no, I don’t teach my own books ever (unethical since I get royalties off of those sales). After Finitude is nice and short and cheap and clear, but so far my efforts to add a 21st Century Philosophy class in Egypt have been stonewalled by a conservative Gadamerian. In a few years, perhaps.
