the evening
April 8, 2009
I took the last set of Prince of Networks proofs to Tabasco, which has the best pancakes in Cairo other than a few 5-star hotels. That was just the thing…. I got on a roll and finished off the proofs. In fact, I did it fast enough that I looked at my watch and saw that there was still time to make it to the play, the first one ever staged at the new campus.
The play is Moliere’s “School for Wives,” and they must be gratified that it’s drawing large crowds. The great distance of the new campus from the city center, combined with the evening hours of the play, led some to worry that the new location would be a program-killer. Not so, apparently, though they may be drawing from a more suburban audience than used to be the case.
As for the proofs, God how I hate correcting proofs. But there were fewer mistakes this time than in the past. Only 3 or 4 of the typos would have led to outright confusion for the reader, which is a pretty small number for this stage. One long block quote did disappear somehow, but will be restored.
On the whole, I give an A+ to the re.press experience so far. And they get an A++ for speed.
